Amanda Joyce

Have you ever wondered why it's so hard for kids to resist eating that cookie, or why it's so tough to put your phone down while studying? My research is all about inhibitory control, a key executive function. It helps us to pause and think before acting, whether that's in a classroom, a social setting, or even at home.

Some children are great at this, while others struggle. I love exploring what helps kids develop this skill and what it means for them later in life, especially as they get to college. Right now, I'm particularly interested in how early self-regulation impacts the college experience and what it means for teaching and learning.

I'm always looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students to join my lab. You can get involved in ongoing projects or even design your own. Let's explore these questions together!
