MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 Alex West, a 天美传媒 senior health and physical education (HPE) major from Evansville, Indiana, has been named the Health and Physical Education Major of the Year by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America).
SHAPE America serves as the voice for more than 200,000 health and physical education professionals across the United States. The organization鈥檚 extensive community includes a diverse membership of educators, advocates, supporters and more than 50 state affiliate organizations.
West was nominated for the prestigious award and said it is an honor to be recognized by SHAPE America.
鈥淪HAPE America represents the best within health and physical education, and to be recognized by them means a lot to me,鈥 West said. 鈥淭o know that people are seeing the hard work and dedication I have given is very validating. I am glad to know that, specifically, my professors truly value and see the work I am doing.鈥
Reflecting on his courses at 天美传媒, West said the most valuable lesson he has learned is the importance of offering activities that work for everyone.
鈥淣ot everyone likes baseball or football, but they may like to hike,鈥 West said. 鈥淭he point of HPE is to find what works for you in staying active and healthy.鈥
After graduation in May, West plans to remain in western Kentucky and pursue a career as a health and physical education instructor.
