History of SGA
鈥淭he Student Organization was first organized in 1936, and on May 11 of that year, the first Constitution for the Organization was written and ratified. The purpose of the Student Organization was to promote character and initiative through the responsibilities of effective organization and a featured purpose of the Organization was to expand and promote interest in student affairs, to provide the means for the clear expression of student opinion and its presentation to the administration when advisable, to unify and systematize campus activities, to increase and clearly define student responsibilities, and to foster in every manner possible student character and initiative.
Dr. Forrest Pogue, a former student and then a professor at 天美传媒 and a distinguished historian, was helpful in writing or formulating the original Constitution.
Because of the outstanding efforts of students and faculty advisors, the 1937 Shield was dedicated to the Student Organization. In later years, the students changed the name to the Student Government. In 1968, the Constitution was rewritten and continues to serve as it has through the years as the effective voice of the students working in harmony with the administration and acting as coordinator of student- campus activities.
In the 60鈥檚, the Student Class Assembly consisting of the individual class officers, was made a facet of the Student Organization or the Student Government.
The Student Council is composed of the class representatives in addition to the President, the Vice President, the Secretary and the Treasurer.
Also, in 1966, a Judicial Board was formulated and approved by the Board of Regents and by the student body.鈥�

Letter from the SGA President
Hello!
My name is Ali Khatib, and I am honored to serve as your Student Government Association President and Student Regent for the 2025鈥�2026 school year. Representing our Racer community is a privilege I don鈥檛 take lightly.
Having lived in Murray since the second grade, I once questioned whether staying here for college would limit my growth. I worried that by staying in my hometown, I might miss out on new experiences. But I couldn't have been more wrong. Throughout my experiences on campus as a Racer, I realized I wasn鈥檛 just attending a university 鈥� I was joining a family. Whether you鈥檝e lived here your whole life or this is your first time visiting, there鈥檚 a place for you here. 天美传媒 has a way of making every student feel like they belong, and that鈥檚 something I want to help maintain and grow.
My time in SGA started my first semester in my college career, and it鈥檚 been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Through serving as one of the Freshman Senators, working on the Executive board as Vice President of Administration, and meeting student leaders, I鈥檝e learned how powerful our voice can be. Now, as your SGA President, my focus is to represent and advocate for the students, emphasizing that every student has a voice.
SGA isn鈥檛 just a title 鈥� it鈥檚 your student-led platform for making change. Whether through our Student Senate, Judicial Board, Campus Activities Board, or Residential College Association, we鈥檙e here to give you a voice. If you have a new idea, a problem, or a vision to make campus better, I want you to know there will always be a seat at the table for you.
This year, let鈥檚 continue to build a 天美传媒 where everyone thrives 鈥� where tradition meets progress, and where every voice matters. My door is always open, and I mean that.
