Inspiration

Ron and Ann both grew up in Murray and graduated from Murray High School, where Ann earned the honor of Valedictorian. High school sweethearts, they both attended Murray State, with Ron receiving a bachelor’s degree in math and physics and Ann a bachelor’s  in business administration. After serving for two years in the military, Ron began working for Union Carbide Products Division in Ohio as an engineer. During his 30 year career there, he worked on developing brushes for high altitude aircraft electrical equipment and was awarded a patent for the approved brush grade for the electrical equipment for the Mercury, Gemini, and Atlas space capsules. Meanwhile, Ann earned her master’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and taught for 26 years. Upon retiring in 1992, the Churchills moved back to their hometown of Murray, where they became active members of the community and proud Racer fans. Always placing a high value on their education and its importance in their successful careers, the Churchills decided to plan to leave a huge legacy to positively impact both their alma mater and students from Murray and Calloway County.
